little mind growing fast

Crazy what has been happening with Fin's language and intellectual development this past month or so. really stunning.

Finley is a little repeat-o-matic. we say a word and then he says the word. look out!!!

he started using sentences back in the first week of june. the first ones were "i wan some cheese!" then I want see elmo.

when he is hungry he now says "I wan eats, foos, yunch mommy".

then "meel" (milk) turned into "wan meel" turned into "i want some milch"!!! (haha MILCH-we can't stop laughing about that. so now he always says the whole sentence even tho he could get the message across simply by saying "milch". totally cute.

kind of sad-loss of innocence and another step toward boyhood (gulp). it was so cute b/c he used to say "air mow" meaning airplane b/c he could say the air part but instead of the plane part fo the word he would make the sound that airplanes make (mooowww). so it became "airmow" (or it sounded like airmail and this cracked us up). but then one day about he suddenly said "airpane" and Bill & I looked at eachother in surprise and sadness. oh the little evidence that eh is growing is painful sometimes.

Fin is recognizing numbers and letters everywhere we go and he will blurt out and start counting or trygint o say ABC's. it is so cute. he is better at the numbers than the letters. he'll say 1,2,4,8,9,10,11,14. in such a cute little voice it just about breaks your heart. and he says it with the deliberate counting tone that people use when they say numbers. it is hillarious that he picked that tone up as well as the number words. he says numbers and other words while we are driving places. he'll say tree, airplane, flower, grass, car, truck, siren, popo (police-opps bad parenting).

he still likes to watch his DVD when in the car but we only allow it when we are driving far. elmo and curious george (he calls "eee eee" or "dorg") are the favs right now. altho sometimes he wants to watch "memo" (AKA finding Nemo).

lately he is also saying Bill b/c he hears me call Bill around the house sometimes. Fin says "beel". so cute.

also now when we put him in bed for a nap he will often stay awake for a bit talking to his animals and blankets. it kills us it is so endearing. he talks about meows and shu shu (our cat sugar) and elmo and juju (aunt georgia).

Fin has realy been enjoying playing memory games with books. he brings us a fav book and then we ask him to point to certain things on the page. he knows all the animals or shapes or whatever. it is amazing.

and of course he loves singing the classic kid sings and he tried to sing as much himself as possible. wheels on the bus and twinkle twinkle and old macdonald are the major favs of Fin. he yells E-I-E-I-OOOOO! and he loves making the animals noises. we crack up when he tried ot make a pig sound b/c he sort fo say "oat oat" and crinkles his little nose.

also Finley has gotten much more picky about food & drink lately. he sometimes will demand juice not water or vice versa. he is still refusing meat unless it is drenched in some sort fo sauce and then he will only take 1 or 2 bites. EXCEPT at Kurt & kelly's wedding where Finley ate 7 sweet-saucy meat balls, a chicken finger and 2.5 pieces of cake. weird..... I guess he had never had processed food before and like most americans-it was an epiphany of deliciousness. oh well I am glad he liked it and had it at a special occasion b/c he won't be getting that kind of thing at home (yes I am a nutrition nazi).

in general he is still on the fruit, cheese, and cookie diet. altho the fruit of choice is berries of all kinds-strawberry, blueberrry, raspberry. and cookie is fignewmans and breakfast bars and aniaml crackers and grhama crackers. and cheese is string cheese, mac&chs, chs pizza (which he calls "peets eats") so dang cute.

of course Fin is as adventurous and curious as ever. he loves slides and climbing structures and testing his limits. he is not malicious or careless. he is just adventurous and so sure of himself that he really can do it! and we are so proud yet always on the lookout for danger b/c he will likely be walking on that fine line b/n unsafe and OK.

Fin is still a master soccer player for such a little guy. he dribbles the ball and kicks and can even pass it to another player. we are "open-mouth" shocked by this. of course Bill is thrilled but I just find it amazing.

evertytime we see friends, family, everyone exclaims how tall Fin is so he must be growing fast even tho Bill & I don't notice so much on a daily basis.
